1: CURTAINS!
And you thought your mothers lime green floral curtains were just for decoration? Nope! Open your curtains on any south-facing window to capture free solar heat energy during the day. Don’t forget, however, to close those curtains at night to help insulate those windows and keep your warm air inside.
2: REPLACE YOUR AIR FILTER
We recommend changing air filters every 3 months minimum throughout the year to keep both your heat and air conditioning running at maximum efficiency. When filters becoming even 50% clogged with dirt and dust, your system has to work twice as hard to circulate air throughout your home. That’s crucial warm air that will keep you warm on the coldest of days.
3: CEILING FANS AREN’T JUST FOR SUMMER…
Everyone assumes that a ceiling fan is only for creating a cool breeze in the summer. Your ceiling fan, however can be a great tool to boost your heating efficiency, especially if you have high vaulted ceilings. Turn the fan on reverse (pushing air up in the winter, down in the summer), to help circulate trapped warm air which has risen to your ceiling.
4: ARE YOUR DUCTS SEALED?
Imagine putting out a fire using a hose with holes in it, loosing half of your much needed water along the way. Your ducts are very similar. It has been estimated that up to 20% of warm air can escape through leaking ducts. Hire a professional duct sealing services at the first sign of an issue to be sure that your “hose”, or heating system, is not loosing air and is working at peak performance.
5: MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE WITH A PROGRAMMABLE THERMOSTAT
