We want to help you keep your HVAC operating smoothly year round and save you money in the process. Our amazing and loyal costumer base knows that The OC is a trustworthy service company that can help you make the right decision. Here are 5 steps that you, a homeowner, can take to keep your air conditioning running at top performance.

1) Get bi-annual maintenance

Maintenance on your HVAC is very similar to maintenance to your car; preventative checks and regular maintenance will keep both running smoothly. Our certified technicians will give your AC a thorough check-up, top off any fluid lines that may be running low, and clean your system to ensure that it’s running at top performance. If we do find a problem, we’ll discuss it with you and address it as needed.

2) Change the air filter

If you’ve read our past blogs at Optimum Climates you will see a reoccurring theme - change the air filter. It’s repeated because it’s crucially important. Maintaining proper air flow and keeping debris out of your unit is key. The more the air filter is clogged, the harder your unit has to work and the more your electric bill will be. Change the filters every 3 months to achieve maximum efficiency.

3) Insulate walls and windows

Proper insulation will help you both in the summer and the winter. If you’re planning on replacing windows this summer, be sure they have a high R-value and low U-value and when installed the window is properly sealed around the edges to ensure an airtight system.

4) Speaking of windows, cover them up!

If you have a hot spot in your home from the sun, usually a west facing window, use shades or blinds to reduce the amount of heat transfer into your home. You would be surprised what at difference it makes and will reduce the load on your AC system.

5) Check that your vents are clean and clear

Walk through your home and make sure that no furniture, boxes, toys or any other debris is blocking your supply or return vents. More often than not, there is a layer of dirt and dust on your return vents as well. Clean them with a vacuum and extend the life of your filter and your system.

We want you to be cool and comfortable in your home this summer! Take these 5 easy steps to get your AC running smoothly and efficiently.
