SUPPLIES:

  • cornstarch

  • water

  • cookie sheet & mixing bowl

  • food coloring – green or orange recommended!

  • optional: plastic spiders, rubber snakes, googly eyes – anything that can make this oobleck a little spookier!

Supplies Needed

HOW TO MAKE OOBLECK

STEP 1. Simply mix up a 2:1 ratio of cornstarch and water. (The amount used in our pictures is 3 cup of cornstarch and 1 1/2 cup of water). We recommend using your hands for mixing! If your mixture seems too dry add a bit more water. Oobleck is ready when the mixture is thick and fluid but starts to tear if stirred too fast.

Mixing it up!

STEP 2. Add food coloring to make it spooky

STEP 3. Pour onto a cookie sheet and dig in!

Clean up is easy, just use a damp cloth for surfaces and if you leave the mixture out overnight it will dry up and scrape off easily.

Oobleck really is a cool and unique substance for kids to explore. Adding plastic spiders or googly eyes just makes in more playful. Fun science and sensory play in one easy activity!
